Department of General Practice and Emergency Medicine
With the belief of wholesome medical care and approach the department was established in 2001 by Dr. Owen Lewis from Australia. Besides, an undergraduate can also opt for an elective posting in the department for further exposure. Postgraduates are also provided with learning experiences from the department itself (through Departmetal classes like seminars, case discussions, journal clubs etc) and also through the postings in various other departments of the college itself. The postgraduate students are sent to periphery postings every year for adequate peripheral exposures too. The Australasian TRIAGE scoring system in BPKIHS is the first instance as such in Nepal and now the similar practice is being replicated by other institutions of Nepal and India following the huge success at BPKIHS. The department not only provides services to people coming to BPKIHS but also at community level through various outreach clinics and community health camps.
