Department of Dermatology and Venereology
The Department of Dermatology and Venereology was established along with the medical college in 1994. The postgraduate program in the department started from 1999.
The department imparts the dermatological and venereological expertise to the junior residents of the department and also to those of the department of General Practice, Community Medicine and Internal Medicine besides the regular classes to the undergraduate students. It also conducts various research activities in the institute and in the collaboration with other institutions.
The PG students have regular classes in form of Seminars, Journal Clubs, Small Group Discussions, Case Conferences, Ward Teachings, Histopathology and Clinical Grand Rounds. UG students have Structured Interactive Sessions, Case Based Learning, Learning in the Field and Small Group Discussions. Researches and Publications are other dimension of the departmental activity. The department also conducts regular CMEs and training courses as on regular basis.
Regular Hospital services in form of Out Patient service and In-patient service at BPKIHS and Learning in Field OPD at Inaruwa are being provided. Speciality clinics are held in the afternoon every working day so as to provide a detailed attention to a particular disease constellation. STD, Dermatosurgery & cosmetic, Allergy, Pediatric, Geriatric, Pigmentary and Leprosy clinics are held as speciality clinics. Minor OT and OPD procedures include electro and radio cautery, CO2 laser, PUVA/NB-PUVA and many others. Recently Intense Pulse dye laser (Nd:Yag), microdermabrader, Hand and Foot PUVA and Scalp PUVA has been added to the services.
The department plans to further strengthen the ongoing patient care services, academic and research methodologies in the days to come. Prof. Dr. Sudha Agrawal is also the current President of the Society of Dermatologists, Venereologists and Leprologists of Nepal (SODVELON).
