The Department of Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics was established with the medical college in 1994. The postgraduate program in the department was established in 1999. The department was recognized by Medical Council of India (MCI) in 2011.

The department imparts educational expertise to the junior residents of the department besides the regular classes to the undergraduate students. It also conducts various research activities in the institute in addition to the collaborative studies with other institutions.

Regular Hospital services in form of Therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM) started since 2011. A Drug Information Centre (DIC) and Drug and Therapeutic Committee (DTC) were established in 2002. The Regional Pharmacovigilance Centre (BPKIHS) was established in 2009. Since then the Adverse Drug Reaction Monitoring started functioning in the department.

The department plans to establish clinical trials and herbal laboratory in the days to come besides imparting quality knowledge and skills to the students and carrying out research activities and publications.
